Did you know?

Did you know that having an Episiotomy can actually make a tear in the perineum worse?

Did you know that lying on your back to give birth is actually one of the worst positions?

Did you know that "wearing" your baby instead of taking them everywhere in a car seat can actually reduce crying and fussiness?

Did you know that disposable diapers really aren't the best thing to be putting on your baby's bottom?

Did you know that there are a lot of risks with getting an epidural and there are close to zero risks with doing a natural birth?

Did you know that it benefits baby more if you wait to cut the umbilical cord until after its done pulsating?

Did you know that I knew none of this till after I got pregnant?
Do your research if you are pregnant. Learn about the options.

  1. I knew about them all especially about the epidural but after 36 hrs of labor and pushing for 4+ hrs I was darn glad I got it... I had to have an emergency c-section (she had dropped wrong into the birth canal and was stuck)... I always say to keep an open mind! If you have too many expectations of how you want it to go, you'll have regrets! Good luck with everything though, I can't wait see her!! Oh and p.s. I had a sling and I loved it... I was even able to do the dishes with the baby in it!!

  2. Hi I am Devin's cousin, Laura. Hopefully someday I will acctually get to meet you. I have 4 kiddos. I could weigh in on my births and my opinions, but don't want to bore you. I can suggest one thing, if you are serious about wearing, get an ERGO!!! They are awesome. Another thing is to make sure you get a pulse ox test before you leave the hospital. It checks for congenital heart defects, which is the number one defect and often goes without being diagnosed. Read about it by googling cora's story. Hope all goes well with your plan, but honestly until you go through it try not to be too strict. After 4 times I can honestly say things never are routine, and you just never know wha tis going to happen. But it is an adventure, so just relax and enjoy it. That is probably the best thing you can do for you and for baby. Oh and sleep when she does, but in reality that rarely happens. Can't wait to see pictures!

  3. The number one thing I've learned from all of my research is to not be upset if everything doesn't go exactly how I plan. So I've had that in my head from the very beginning. I know everything won't go perfectly and there is the possibility that everything could go horribly wrong. I can still do everything within my power to be knowledgeable and help make my birth go the way I want it to. There is no reason that I can't plan and hope for the best.
I'm actually not a fan of the type of baby carriers that have buckles and straps and that kind of stuff. I got a Moby Wrap instead.
    Thanks for the comments though.

  5. I hope we didn't upset you or offend you. I really hope the number one thing you got from my comment and hopefully Krisi reads this too, a pregnancy is a wonderful experience! I never understand women who do not enjoy it and don't want to be pregnant. I have my 4 and we are officially done. I only meant to share with you that having a baby is an amazing blessing to your lives. I am sure from reading your posts that you with be a fabulous mother, and I know Devin will be a kind and caring father. We grew up fairly close to his family, and I wish you two the best. Just remember to take it easy and ENJOY EVERY SECOND! It is gone before you know it. My baby girl is 10 now. They are only a baby for such a small time, so relax and enjoy it, but not so much that we never see any pictures. Oh and tell Devin Happy late Birthday for us!
